Medicare & You 2027: How to Get the Official Handbook

The official 2027 Medicare & You handbook is published and free to download from Medicare.gov. This page links directly to the English and Spanish PDFs and explains how to get a printed copy mailed to you.

Where can I download the 2027 Medicare & You handbook?

All editions are hosted directly on Medicare.gov, the official U.S. government Medicare site. These are the same files Medicare.gov itself links to as of 2026-10-01.

How do I get a printed copy mailed to me?

CMS automatically mails a printed copy of Medicare & You to people already enrolled in Medicare, usually in late September, ahead of the Medicare Advantage and Part D Annual Enrollment Period that starts October 15.

If you have not received a copy, are new to Medicare, or want an extra copy, call 1-800-MEDICARE (1-800-633-4227) and ask for a printed copy with information for your area. TTY users can call 1-877-486-2048. You can also request one online at medicare.gov/publication-ordering/10050, when ordering is open for the current edition.

What’s new in Medicare for 2027?

As of 2026-10-01, CMS had published the 2027 handbook itself but had not yet published the specific 2027 Part B premium, deductible, and IRMAA dollar figures, those are announced separately from the handbook, later in the fall. The most recently confirmed figures on this site are the 2026 numbers (see the IRMAA calculator and the Sources section below). This page will be updated with the exact 2027 figures as soon as CMS confirms them through a primary source, not a projection.

What is already certain for every year, including 2027: the Medicare Advantage and Part D Annual Enrollment Period runs October 15 to December 7, and any plan changes made during it take effect January 1.

Does Bexar County have local help reading the handbook?

Yes. The Insurance Space is an independent, licensed Medicare agency based in San Antonio, serving Bexar County and the surrounding area. Call the office directly or read the San Antonio Medicare page for local plan counts, carriers, and enrollment help. A free review does not require enrolling in anything.

Common questions about the 2027 handbook

Is the Medicare & You 2027 handbook different from my plan’s Annual Notice of Change?

Yes. Medicare & You is the government’s general handbook explaining how Medicare works. Your plan’s own Annual Notice of Change, mailed separately each September, lists what is changing specifically in your plan for next year. Read both.

Do I have to read the whole 128-page handbook?

No. It is a reference book, not a cover-to-cover read. Most people look up the one or two sections that apply to them (enrollment periods, a specific Part, or the costs and programs chapter) and keep it for the rest of the year.

When does CMS mail printed copies automatically?

CMS typically mails Medicare & You to people already enrolled in Medicare in late September each year, ahead of the Medicare Advantage/Part D Annual Enrollment Period that starts October 15. If you have not received yours by then, call 1-800-MEDICARE.

Where do the Part B premium and deductible figures in this handbook come from?

From CMS’s own annual fact sheet, published separately from the handbook. As of this writing, the verified figures on this site are the 2026 numbers; CMS had not yet published the specific 2027 dollar amounts. See the Sources section below for the exact fact sheet link.

Can a local agent help me understand what the handbook means for my situation?

Yes, at no cost to you. An independent agent cannot change what the handbook says, but can help you apply it to your own plan, doctors, and prescriptions. The Insurance Space’s San Antonio office offers a free review by phone or in person.
