New to Medicare or Already on It?
Free Medicare Class in Texas
A free, live online Medicare class for anyone in Texas, taught by a licensed San Antonio-based agent. Join from home on your phone, tablet, or computer.
What is the Simple Medicare Class?
The Simple Medicare Class is a free, 45-minute online class taught live by Victoria Cabrera, a licensed insurance agent with more than 20 years in health insurance and a focus on the Medicare market since 2015. It explains how Medicare actually works in a way that is super easy to understand, with no sales pitch.
Victoria is also a NABIP speaker. The class is live, not a recording, so you can follow along in real time, and an AI assistant chat is available during the class for basic questions. There is no cost and no obligation to enroll in anything.
Who should take this class?
This class is built for anyone trying to make sense of Medicare: people turning 65 soon, people still working past 65, people already on Medicare who want a refresher, someone helping a parent, Texas newcomers, and veterans weighing VA coverage alongside Medicare.
- Turning 65 soon and starting to look at your options
- Still working past 65 and unsure whether to enroll now or wait
- Already on Medicare and want a plain-language refresher
- Helping a parent or family member sort through their choices
- New to Texas and need to understand your options here
- A veteran weighing VA coverage alongside Medicare, see the Medicare & Veterans guide first
What will I learn in the class?
You will learn how your red, white, and blue Medicare card works, where Original Medicare leaves gaps, the real differences between a Medicare Supplement and a Medicare Advantage plan, and extra coverage options, like hospital indemnity plans, that can help fill those gaps.
- How your Medicare card and Parts A and B work together
- The gaps in Original Medicare, and what they can mean for your costs
- A Medicare Supplement vs. a Medicare Advantage plan, side by side
- Extra coverage options, like hospital indemnity plans, that can help fill the gaps
When do I need to sign up for Medicare?
Your Initial Enrollment Period is a one-time, 7-month window: 3 months before the month you turn 65, your birthday month, and 3 months after. Miss it with no other qualifying coverage, and a Part B late enrollment penalty can apply for as long as you have Part B.
The rules are different if you are still working with employer coverage, or if you are a veteran with VA benefits, VA coverage does not protect you from the Part B penalty the way real employer coverage does. See the full Enrollment Periods and Late Penalties guide (with live penalty calculators) and the turning 65 timeline tool for your own exact dates.
Confirmed live against Medicare.gov: the Part B penalty is generally 10% of the standard premium per 12-month period uninsured; the Part D penalty is 1% of the 2026 national base beneficiary premium ($38.99) per month without creditable drug coverage. Both apply for as long as you have that part of Medicare.
What does Medicare cost in 2027?
CMS has not published 2027 Part A and Part B costs yet, they are typically announced in November for the coming year. The numbers below are the most recently published figures, for 2026, not 2027. We will update this page the moment CMS announces the real 2027 numbers.
Medicare costs come in a few pieces: a monthly premium, an annual deductible, and coinsurance once you are past the deductible. Here is where those 2026 figures stand, so you have a real, sourced starting point while 2027's numbers are still pending.
