Your Medicare card shows Part A and Part B. Part A covers hospital stays. Part B covers doctor visits and outpatient care. Together, they're called Original Medicare, and they come straight from the federal government, not from us.

Part A and Part B don't cover everything. There's no cap on what you could owe if something serious happens, and prescription drugs aren't included at all. That gap is real, and it's the reason the next two options exist.

A Medicare Supplement is more of an a la carte situation. You'll carry three cards, your Medicare card, your supplement, and a separate drug plan, and you'll make three separate premium payments. The take is that it costs more. The give is any doctor who accepts Medicare, no networks, and coverage that works the same in Texas, California, or New York.

A Medicare Advantage plan is an all in one plan. It combines your hospital coverage, your medical coverage, and often your prescription drug coverage onto a single card. One card instead of three. The give is a lower monthly premium and extra benefits Medicare alone doesn't include, like dental, vision, and hearing. The take is that it's pay as you go, with set copays for hospital stays, primary care, specialists, and other services.
